This round was a case of “sure you can copy my homework, but make sure to change it a little”. It is effectively a copy of the much earlier 7.63x25 round developed by Mauser. these rounds are so similar in fact that either cartridge can be chambered and fired in a firearm marked for the other however this is not advised as the 7.62 version is loaded to higher pressures. A few interesting variant of this cartridge have shown up over the years such as a steel cored incendiary version used by the Soviets during WW2 or a heavy sub-sonic spitzer projectile variant used by the Chinese in suppressed firearms.
