This round is a bit of an oddity as it not technically its own chambering. It was developed for use by Cowboy action/competition shooters who want to use light loads in 45 Colt revolvers. When a standard 45 Colt case is loaded light it results in poor ignition and potential case splitting. The smaller capacity of this case makes it perfect to prevent these issues. It was effectively made by taking a 45 ACP length case and adding a 45 Colt rim.
