This cartridge has been a favourite among medium and large game hunters for nearly 100 years. Created by Ned Roberts in the 1920’s as a “Perfect Compromise” between the light recoil of .22 caliber rounds and the stopping power of larger 7mm or .30 caliber rounds. The first commercially available rifle in this caliber was introduced by Remington in 1934 and bolt action rifles in this caliber can still be bought from major manufacturers to this day!
