The 444 Marlin round was introduced in 1964 as at this time no major manufacturer was offering a 45-70 chambering and it appeared that a new big bore lever action cartridge would need to take its place. Unfortunately for Marlin the 45-70 saw a massive revival with modern power loadings being chambered in rifles from a. range of manufacturers. This lead to the 444 falling into relative obscurity and never becoming a true commercial success. Available with Hornady FTX or XTP bullet.
